IN OTHER WORDS
2006 was a huge year for South Africa 18 year old Jordy Smith took down the ASP World Junior Championships, Rosanne Hodge qualified for the 2007 ASP Women¡¦s World Tour and this season will also see two rookie South Africans join forces with Greg Emslie and Travis Logie on the professional surfing¡¦s Dream Tour, the Foster¡¦s ASP World Tour. Making up half of this dynamic duo is 21 year old Ricky Basnett. The diminutive natural footer has long been on the radar of the collective competitive surfing world, but 2006 saw Ricky put together a stellar campaign on the ¡¦QS, including a runner up finish in Margaret River and a 3rd place finish in France. His excellent 3rd place finish on last season¡¦s ASP WQS ratings will serve him well in ¡¥¡¦07 as he eases into the first few elite level events safe from drawing rookie slayers Kelly Slater, Andy Irons and Mick Fanning in the early rounds. Once Basnett adjusts to the World Tour competitive format, look for him to turn more than a few heads.
